Andrew

DOB: 4/19/94

Andrew is thirteen years old. He is friendly and full of smiles with a good sense of humor. He enjoys Scooby Doo, Spider Man, movies, books, and the computer. He likes to be helpful around the house by doing chores. He likes one on one attention from adults. Andrew gets along well with older/bigger children. Andrew attended Camp Nuhop in the past and had a wonderful time with the new experiences offered there. Andrew loves to swim, and play outside sports. Andrew enjoys having a routine, and is very good at keeping track of dates and times. Andrew has been able to form positive attachments.

Andrew has an IEP for Other Health Impairment, and is on 8th grade. Andrew has a lower I.Q. and is mildly mentally retarded. Andrew has a significant speech delay and receives speech therapy in school and once weekly with an individual speech therapist. He achieves good grades in school and enjoys doing his homework. Andrew is very good in math. Andrew has been physically aggressive to other students and teachers. Andrew was charged in Juvenile Court for the aggression at school. He is working on anger and behavior problems with the help of an individual therapist and case manager. Andrew has been on probation through Juvenile Court. He is diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder. Andrew does not display many signs of ADD. Andrew is prescribed medication to help with behavior. Other behavior problems have included physical aggression to the foster parents, destructive of property, occasional bed wetting, bossy and controlling, especially with younger children and pets, temper tantrums and stealing items from others in homes. Andrew tends to hoard items of his own and others.

Andrew was raised as an only child by his single, mildly mentally retarded, mother in a home characterized by criticism and constant negative interactions. He was physically abused when disciplined by his mother’s boyfriend for about one year. Andrew was placed in an adoptive placement, however, the mother died tragically in an accident which has caused much grief and loss issues. Andrew will benefit from a patient, structured home with older children and parents who feel they can accept a child with a lower I.Q.
